Berlin. (bfr) Die zunehmende Verwendung von Vitaminen, Mineralstoffen, Spurenelementen und weiteren Substanzen in Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln, die in Form von Kapseln, Tabletten, Pulver oder auch in flüssiger Form als Lebensmittel zur Ergänzung der allgemeinen Ernährung angeboten werden, stellt eine Herausforderung für den Verbraucherschutz dar. Verbraucher müssen nicht nur vor möglichen gesundheitlichen Risiken, sondern auch vor Irreführung geschützt werden. Angesichts des großen und weiter wachsenden Angebotes sowie des zunehmenden Vertriebs von Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln über das Internet hat das Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR) häufig gestellte Fragen zu diesem Themenkreis beantwortet.
