Frankfurt / Main. (fibl) Die biologisch bewirtschaftete Fläche stieg weltweit im Jahr 2006 gegenüber 2005 um 1,8 Millionen auf 30,4 Millionen Hektar. Mehr als ein Drittel davon liegt in Australien und Ozeanien sowie knapp ein Viertel in Europa. Die größte Biofläche befindet sich in Australien mit 12,3 Millionen Hektar, gefolgt von China (2,3 Millionen Hektar), Argentinien (2,2 Millionen Hektar) und den USA (1,6 Millionen Hektar). Der größte Teil der globalen Biofläche liegt in Ozeanien (42 Prozent), gefolgt von Europa (24 Prozent) und Lateinamerika (16 Prozent). Spitzenreiter beim Anteil an der gesamten Landwirtschaftsfläche sind die europäischen Alpenländer wie Österreich (13 Prozent oder 361.487 Hektar) und die Schweiz (zwölf Prozent oder 125.596 Hektar). Eine zweistellige Zuwachsrate wies 2006 der globale Biomarkt aus: Sein Volumen stieg auf 38,6 Milliarden US-Dollar – gegenüber 2005 ein Zuwachs von fünf Milliarden US-Dollar. Diese und andere Zahlen für 2006 gehen aus der Studie «The World of Organic Agriculture – Statistics and Emerging Trends 2008» hervor, die soeben erschienen ist.
