München. (bdi) Die Wacker Chemie AG hat den Umweltpreis des Bundesverbands der Deutschen Industrie (BDI) erhalten. Der Münchner Konzern wurde in der Kategorie «Umweltfreundliche Technologie» für sein innovatives Verfahren zur Herstellung der Aminosäure Cystein aus Mikroorganismen ausgezeichnet. Das patentierte Wacker-Verfahren verwendet dazu ausschließlich nachwachsende pflanzliche Rohstoffe, verzichtet komplett auf organische Lösungsmittel und spart gegenüber der traditionellen Herstellung 96 Prozent Salzsäure ein. Der BDI-Preis wird alle zwei Jahre verliehen und würdigt innovative Projekte der deutschen Industrie, die gleichermaßen ökologisch, ökonomisch und sozial vorteilhafte Lösungen aufzeigen.
